An incredible property on the exotic island of Exuma, Bahamas! The view from the bed every morning (or during my frequent mid-day flops onto the king size mattress) was breathtaking. Bright green palm trees, Caribbean teal waters, contrasted by snowy white sandbars (particularly at low tides) create an unforgettable scene. A massive patio complements the bay door entrance to the second storey unit. Two washrooms, Direct TV (so you don’t miss any of your favourite shows), a futon, and kitchenette with all of the necessities (coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, fridge, sink, all utensils). All you need to do is make a pit stop at the market in Georgetown en route to Harbourview and you’ll be set for the week (oh and by the way – Gail and Don will provide you with directions and all preparatory information through email before you arrive). Your hosts have also created a binder of need-to-know information for venturing around the island – hidden beach entrances, restaurants, etc. I took this binder with me in my rental car on the days I went exploring and it was all I needed. They are also willing to make calls for you, get you on tour boats for snorkelling/diving and are happy to chat or give you your privacy – totally up to you. Makes you feel very welcome to be a guest in their home. The unit is completely separate, save for an inside stairwell leading to a locked door on the first floor and a doorbell for times when you need to ask them questions. They’re very quick to respond. Be sure to take their kayak across to Moriah Harbour Cay. Next to the accomodations, this is the highlight of the visit. Sandbars, crystal clear water, and complete serenity. I left my cellphone behind and brought only a backpack to wander around this preserved cay – alone for the entire day. A modern day Robinson Crusoe! The beaches here are protected from wind and waves and you could easily spend several days wandering through the powdery sand. Be sure to look at Gail & Don’s pictures and (soon to be) videos on the profile of Harbourview – they are very real and can be visited just a few paddles offshore. This is an ideal vacation spot for those looking to get away from reality but still have the same luxuries of being at home. Very quiet and relaxing. Great for couples, small families or people like me who visited alone to get some much needed R&R. A+ for everything – thanks again Gail and Don!
